On January 8 of this year we posted the article, Greg Locke Divorces Wife, Finds New Girlfriend. We were the first to report that Locke, a popular Internet preacher with millions of Facebook fans, known primarily for his conservative political rants mixed with a little Jesus, put away his wife on a bus and sent her to a shelter. After initially denying the reports, Locke claimed that the divorce was final and that it was his wife – and not he – that wanted the divorce. Tracking down Locke’s wife, Melissa, at a woman’s shelter wasn’t easy, but we found her and spoke to her about his allegations. Sitting down with Mrs. Locke, Seth Dunn discovered that Locke had beaten her in the past, and that he threatened her in order to coerce her into filing for divorce. She later withdrew her request for a divorce and Locke filed the paperwork when she refused. All the while, Locke claimed he was an abandoned husband.
Locke also repeatedly denied the allegations that he was romantically involved with his church secretary, calling our reporting “slanderous” and “gossip.” In reality, we provided text messages from Locke revealing his relationship with the secretary and photos of Locke’s van parked outside of her house at unseemly hours when most people are in bed. Locke continued to deny that he was dating the secretary. Then, within weeks of the divorce being finalized, Locke announced to his church that he and the secretary were in a romantic relationship. Weeks later they were married by their associate pastor in a secret ceremony and then their marriage was announced. Absurdly, Locke denies the relationship began before the divorce was final. In fact, reports indicate Locke even blamed his critics for him falling in love with his secretary, claiming that the criticism and allegations brought the two together. In the meantime, Melissa Locke still loves her (now ex) husband and doesn’t want to live in the shelter any longer. Locke, however, has left her destitute. She is trying to get on her feet. She has practically nothing.
While Locke continues to be an evangelical celebrity among less-discerning Christians, Melissa has been a victim of fake Christianity. We desire that real Christianity step up and help the woman who has been abandoned by her husband.
